  ⭐️ Story that allows me to fill in the blanks.
  ⭐️ Michele Morgan. Takes your eyes off the subtitles.
  ⭐️ Gabin. Tough guy portrayal with heart.
  ⭐️ Interesting secondary characters that allow the lovers (main protagonists) to appear more subtle and nuanced.

  Merry Christmas to me.

  First time seeing this film and it made for a great new addition to my list of holiday classics.

  The film interestingly puts a stake in the ground in terms of its message and doesn't stray from it. I kept expecting a curveball within the story's sine wave but it didn't happen and not to the detrement of the overall satisfying conclusion.

  Enjoyed another noir thriller with the dynamic duo of Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd.

  I didn't love the film and didn't enjoy it quite as much as 'This Gun for Hire' which honed in on the Lake/Ladd chemistry. Lake was less present in this film but as usual, she typically steals each scene she's in. Most notably, the scene in which she first meets Ladd is quite the flirtatious affair.
