I liked this film, but I am biased and hungry for anything Russian. At the same time it felt a bit like “soft power” when you look at the place on the global stage Russia currently occupies. My blood ran cold a little when the character played by Yura Borisov says, “I didn’t rape you because I’m not a rapist.” That scene in particular felt excruciating. Some of the earliest war crimes I read about in Ukraine involved Russian soldiers…

As a multi talented person who is not even remotely close to being a nepo baby (🥲 RIP) I couldn’t relate to the main character’s plight at all. What I *could* relate to was falling for a rouse I thought was genuine, only to find out everyone was laughing at me behind my back.
