The sexagenarian Donnie Yen delivered another movie he directed and starred in. Sakra (2023), his last outing, was a fun, wuxia-styled film that lost steam in the third act. Will The Prosecutor be different? The premise is interesting. An action cop leaves the institution and starts learning law to become a prosecutor.

The weak part of this action-law movie was, in fact, the courtroom scenes. The script did the audience a disservice by not explaining how the HKSAR court system works…

Unfortunately, the more dramatic scenes fell short. This was the same issue as the Director’s previous outing—evoking sadness isn’t a feature at his best. I was more amused when the supposedly heart-wrenching moments delivered in a lighter tone.

All and all, this movie is a fine addition to Mr. Rajagukguk’s credential.
