Like a drop of metaphysical, anti-capitalist space sauce on your kitchen floor (as long as you don’t mistake it for the red button): yum!

The Brutalist 2024
Fantastic overture, odd epilogue. Hard to deny the scale and remarkable sound—both score and audio—of everything in between. But to me, some of the film’s narrative turns felt formulaic and mechanical, stretched across an unrestrained runtime.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance 2002
The film shivers up and down the gradient of unlucky fatalism, unlikely chance, and pointless exploitation. Despite its efficiency, political subtext, and striking sound design, there are zero redeeming emotional qualities here. From that standpoint, it’s hard to justify exposing oneself to its illustrations of a purely abject cycle of violence—most certainly in comparison to Park’s next two films.
