A heady film without enough heart.
I like these brilliantly researched thematic carnivals - before this we’ve had Viking lala land, sea-shanty-core lock in and Hansel and Gretel coded serfdom. Gothic-noir folk tale was great too and with all its history in cinema from Mernau to Coppola, a director like Robert Eggers is going to have a field day.
