Something I've come to appreciate about the trilogy this time around is how different every movie feels. Temple of Doom and Last Crusade both build off Raiders in interesting but divergent ways - and I like how much variety you get over the course of the three. You can certainly knock Crusade for relying on what worked in the past but I think Spielberg offers enough of a remix to make it work.

After we watched Thief, my friend and I decided to follow it up with Cruising - which is perhaps not one of my favorites - but a movie that is just an absolute joy to introduce to people. Killers of the Flower Moon is a severely flawed film. The three-and-a-half-hour runtime will alienate a wide swath of the audience and prevent many from diving in. Yet, the film still feels like it is only scratching the surface of the vastly complicated period it's attempting to capture. Many vital elements of the book, such as the motivation behind the FBI's investigation, are left by the wayside. In Scorsese's attempt to portray marginalized people, he focuses almost exclusively on their…
