I love this and The Post for their showcasing of late era Spielberg's commitment to old-fashioned craft. But this feels strangely earnest and sentimental for a apy thriller. A drop of Le Carré in the script could have given it that extra oomph.

Cries and Whispers 1972
It's so heavy and bleak, impenetrable and lahden with symbolism it could well be a perfect parody of Bergman. (Or maybe just my seven-day streak of Bergman movies is starting to take its toll - either way this was my least favourite so far) Despite all that, there's four magnificent performances, some fascinating themes and an eerie atmosphere that's hard to shrug off.
