usually when i watch cop films, my empathy meter drops significantly. it’s in the nature of their job—the impunity, corruption, etc. etc.—they don’t give us much of a choice really. somehow, in this film, perhaps it’s in the excellent writing or in the way tony leung’s eyes glaze with disillusionment, i cared a bit.

there’s not much i can say apart from how evident it is that a certain percentage of filipino cinema is reminiscent of this genre. the fight scenes, the machismo, the filial love that trumps over anything. really wonderfully shot. love the silhouettes and the colors.
