I actually watched this film after it being suggested by a Mayan historian on YouTube. The film is quite interesting and I was quite surprised to see Mel Gibson of all people directed it. This film takes some liberty in introducing the Aztec culture of sacrifice into the Mayan but apart from that, it’s incredibly well made. We see the journey of a young Mayan man back home after being kidnapped and almost sacrificed, the film gives plenty of suspense, satisfaction and a small peak at the Spanish ships arriving in the end. Definitely highly suggest .

This movie starts off rather uncomfortable with a the romanticising of a pedophilic relationship between a teacher and student. I used to think it was cool back when I was 13-15, maybe even hot but now it’s just.. weird. Apart from that, I could live the rest of my life without watching this movie but, I can’t say I regret watching it or that it’s a waste of time. This film is genuinely a bit ridiculous and that’s what makes…

The same people who rate this movie low are the same people who call Shakespeare crap, not everyone can appreciate or even comprehend art when it smacks them in the face full force. This movie is a masterpiece of a historical story, sure it’s not fully accurate but the casting, the storyline and the cinematography is incredible. We see Oliver Cromwell’s loyalty to the king descent into scorn, we see battles thought to be lost, won and we see the…

The film centres around a young man that loves to feel like an intellectual and a woman that brings him down to earth a small bit. The film feels a bit pretentious at times with its psuedo philosophical dialogues, however, the dialogues that are genuine are actually quite interesting. This film however was made for a very specific audience, and I think that’s where Godard limits himself,  you either understand and appreciate this movie or you get bored very quickly.
