  A terrible idea that was as well executed as it could be. Aesthetically, it looks exactly right. My main criticisms would be: the characters are too strong (at one point, a character who’s supposed to have no powers punches through a wall), which sort of defeats the original point of Watchmen, that they’re non-powered. Several key bits of Rorshach’s early characterization are cut out, making him less of a right wing maniac who looks like he smells terrible, and more…

  When Quentin Crisp was writing his memoirs at age 80 or so, he said that if he knew he could’ve been a transsexual, he would’ve been. He lived his entire life not being comfortable. He was regularly shoved and beaten for being an “effeminate homosexual.” And yet he kept doing it, because he wanted to. This is a story of queer resilience and joy. But it’s also a crushingly sad story. If only he was born a few decades later…
