You already know this story. It is something that has been said and done by countless of films before it. I came in already expecting every plot point and story beat and sure enough I was right most of the time. Despite this however, Ultraman Rising proves that good storytelling comes from empathy and not really "being new and original".
The acting, animation, score, and colors (the color work was really something) bring these characters to life and even though you can tell exactly what is going to happen next you can't help but cry and love just as the characters are.

I watched this one with a friend, it was fun. The film was vibrant and full of energy and a lot of the earlier scenes just popped and grabbed you. It's choices to start with high explosive energy that just slowly slows down makes emphasize with the characters trying to chase back that high of their heyday as they try and navigate a world that's quickly leaving them behind.
