There is such a diversity of bodies in this movie––Elizabeth Debicki gets to be insanely tall, Cynthia Erivo is built like a boxer, and seeing them next to each other is incredible. It's like a greyhound next to a bulldog.
Sean Bobbitt knows how to shoot black skin. Everyone looks incredible, especially under those Chicago sodium lights.

Stewart elevates this from a Fun Star Trek movie to a Great Star Trek movie.
Aside: Half of the Great Star Trek movies (this one, JJ Trek '09, Wrath of Khan, Master and Commander) quote Moby Dick. And Master and Commander is set before Moby Dick, so that one gets a pass.
Undeniably Gilliam, for good and for bad. Driver is a fascinating choice for the Depp-character (and he is very much an early 2000s Depp-character). Price is unsurprisingly perfect.
The highs were high, and there were some delightful moments, but the final scene didn't sit with me; without that coda, this might be 4 stars.
Aside: this was really interesting to watch it after LOST IN LA MANCHA; knowing the shape of that original attempt and seeing how things changed added an additional meta-layer that I think improved the experience.
