  It's a really lovely thing to see a British film evoke the council estate, not as a grey hub of highrises and hopelessness, but actually as a quite endearing place of boxy lawns and pastel tone pebbledash walls. Never let anyone tell you that this country, almost every inch of it, is not searingly beautiful - and every person in it is too.

  Anthony Hopkins is brilliantly understated in this, the way he checks his watch after the 'surrender negotiation' as if he has places to be is just one of the many little joys in this grand piece.

  If you strapped me onto a table, drilled into my skull, extracted little meaty globules of my brain, and distilled them into a liqueure of my purest dreams: you would find the premise of this film.

  It has everything. Trawlermen. Crumbling British towns sacked by neoliberalism. Heists.

  And yet, in spite of that, it's really quite shite. A great idea squandered is a very frustrating thing to see. This film should have been made by someone who knows and cares about fishing, there was just not enough fishing.
