Brilliant and doesn't feel like a 2 and a half hour film at all.
This film had an appropriate balance of grimace worthy gore (it is the Romans after all) and emotionally impactful scenes.
Great background to main characters and Macrinus had beautifully told and engaging character development.

The only scene I didn't buy was when Lucius spoke with Lucilla in the cells after Acacius' death. It seemed like a miraculous change of heart, motive and a complete eradication…

A deliberately slightly unsettling, but completely unsurprising film.
Prolonged shots or a shift of focus built tension around the two main characters, two disturbed girls, but for different reasons. The choice of music added to a hunter-prey atmosphere which was one of the most enjoyable parts of the film.
Good storyline; the explicit fate of the horse felt necessary to include to ground the girls fantasy in reality. I think predictable nature of the plot meant that you resonated with…
