A tragedy with comic elements, this version is faithful to the written play with the expected excellence of the performers and creative settings appropriately costumed.

A 1969 film rather crudely produced - by today’s standards - but still a film worth watching in its ultimate warnings and message that is loosely based upon the Greek authoritarian repression of that era’s governance. “Z”, Yves Montand, portrays the pacifist activist in this French subtitled movie.

If the film-makers wanted box-office profits, they probably succeeded by the amount of blood, gore, and nudity. If they wanted a coherent, unique, and engaging science fiction plot-line, they failed completely. In the later moments and in spite of (expensive?) visual effects, it becomes more like a very bad 1950's film - one that may have had core elements of science fiction, but then crossed into other social-comment genres. Not worth the time and money I spent to stream nor worth the acclaim of any awards.
