Mississippi Burning 1988
A fantastic police procedural marred by white savior politics and standard Gene Hackman macho man bullshit which is harder to swallow with such sensitive subject matter. Black people are just props rather than characters. Despite this, incredibly engaging in a fun thriller way, which is weird for a civil rights era story.

Me and my therapist talk about our cultures need to be special and how freeing it can be to embrace that we are just “one of the flock.” The fact that a film over 90 years old captures this particular life tension so succinctly is incredible.
I can’t believe it took me so long to see this incredible film especially as I am a huge fan of German expressionism.
