Eraserhead 1977
I don’t even know how to properly rate this, it’s just so incredibly fucked up and this is coming from someone who normally likes highly fucked up psychological horror movies (Perfect Blue for example)
Only other movie that’s intentionally made me as uncomfortable watching it was probably Whiplash and this makes Whiplash look like My Neighbor Totoro by comparison
Amazing cinematography though some of the best I’ve ever seen

Ocean Waves 1993
Dull movie, pretty criminal that it’s only 72 minutes long yet it was boring throughout most of its runtime. Probably Ghibli’s worst movie which I can’t say is unexpected since it wasn’t directed by either Miyazaki or Takahata.

The Boy and the Heron 2023
Very poignant and beautiful movie, albeit one that takes a while to fully understand the plot since the movie is packed with so much meaning in its themes and storytelling.
You can tell this movie is probably Hayao Miyazaki’s most personal. Miyazaki’s stories in the past movies often have pull a lot from his experiences in his youth for inspiration (the love for aviation in the Wind Rises, the mother being sick in My Neighbor Totoro to name a couple)…
