Robert Pattinson really carries off the dual role well. Him and Toni Colette are the best thing about the film. I couldn't stand Mark Rufallo's weird uncanny valley trump impression. It feels like a project where Bong was incredibly ambitious but one that ultimately got away from him.

Precise exploration of the effects of trauma and the role of aestheticised violence in cinema. Enid's self prescribed role as a 'protector' mirrors the brain's trauma response. Like the 'Beastman' of Frederick North's film, our trauma response is primitive and uncivilised. It puts us into fight or flight and causes us to shut down, fracturing our memory and our psyche. As Enid is unable to face the horror of what happend to her sister, she continues in error to try to edit the movie of her life, in the misplaced certainty that she can protect others and bring her sister back.
