Love the look of this film. Though if the beginning was any longer, I may have given up. Gosha brings so much needed energy to this. I don't think any film has shown me the struggle of a woman in this era with so much authenticity and grace. Katia, I see you. Forgive me.

This is a film about hope in the face of all human sadness and anguish. Every character has a tribulation, and yet the character who is most at risk in theirs is the most hopeful. And he reminds us that people are amazing. Because they are.

Sometimes ideas are more important than execution of flash and this film has plenty. Adam Driver and Nathalie Emmanuel and Giancarlo Esposito are fantastic and the rest of this all-star cast wrap around them with excellent execution. As much as you may look for pretention, or mighty perspective, it's not there. Go watch Tarkovsky. Coppola shows us what a beautiful world we could be and how love triumphs everything. Ideas are best served warm sometimes because we need them that way, we need an escape. Ideas served cold lead us to brood and isn't there enough of that already? You know: Out There?

The Master look alike contest anyone? And while achieving something closer to Scorsese in certain structural elements, falls flat of his pathos and the picky things that make us human. I was underwhelmed in all respects, but its technical feat. Oh, and the great names. I suppose "brutalist" film is not for me. And that's okay.
