After a long due X-th rewatch, I can confirm that this still is my favourite movie of all time, and I doubt that'll change anytime soon. Rope changed my understanding of what a movie can be. And while it certainly wasn't the only movie that had that or a similar effect on me, it was the one that started it all, so to speak. It got me interested in filmmaking as an art form, the difficulties of visually implementing certain…

Gorilla Interrupted 2003
It’s been over two years since I first watched and reviewed Gorilla Interrupted and its accompanying documentary, How Not To Make A Movie. During those two years, a lot of things have happened in my life, but I’ll leave out the boring parts such as graduating and getting my first job and put the main focus on my relationship with movies. I've seen around 450 of them within this time span, first-time watches for the most part. Some of them…

Oranges: Revenge of the Eggplant 2004
An endlessly charming, genuinely impressive creative achievement done on a shoestring budget in a basement. The miniature sets look amazing and are stacked with an incredible amount of detail; furniture, posters, bulletin boards, school books, and so much more, all in the right scale. I'm sure there are so many more easter eggs and background jokes I probably missed during my first watch. The character design is a very unique idea by itself and supported by almost seamless amateur puppetry,…

The Third Man 1949
I had the unbelievable privilege of not only seeing The Third Man in a theater, but having a masterful zither player perform the theme song before the movie started. A truly timeless classic with stellar performances all around, breathtaking noir cinematography, and a great balance between wonderful humour and the cold realism of a post-war society where desperation will lead people to do terrible things- or simply bring the true character of someone to surface.

Sorcerer 1977
Every rewatch makes me more certain this cinematic equivalent of a pure adrenaline shot straight into the central nervous system will never, ever leave my top 10.
It's the spine-tingling story of four desperate criminals with completely different backgrounds having to risk their lives for money. Most things I've said in my first review in January still hold true and did not get affected by multiple rewatches whatsoever: The urge to jump up from your seat as you tightly clench…

Brain Damage 1988
Frank Henenlotter giving Rick Hearst acting directions for this movie: Now press your face as close to this dirty wall as possible and pretend you're having an intense orgasm while a blue alien worm shoots his juice deep into your throat.
Continuing the trend for the Henenlotter movies I've watched so far, I loved every second of Brain Damage. Budget-wise as well as from an artistic standpoint it's certainly a big step-up from Basket Case, there's lots of beautiful blue…
