The film treads a familiar path—Costa-Gavras’ Missing, Puenzo’s La historia oficial mined the same thriller-melodrama blend of historical reckoning, but with a sense of urgency. Here, political circumstances are reduced to mere atmosphere, a moody backdrop rather than an active force. The stakes never feel immediate, because the film doesn’t really want to wrestle with history—it wants the aura of history, the gravitas without the confrontation.
