Does Elvis leave the building? A comedy horror that is elevated out of the ordinary with the protagonist playing Elvis Presley. Enjoyable and hokey- the decision to pastiche 80 B horror is what makes it great but also causes some issues. Some sections land with an ouch - female representation is not good in this film and ultimately the lack of budget does cause some problems. It is suitably daft.
Interesting to watch how society has decided that grief and unhappiness are dealt with so differently. We must be happy and chipper so as we are not the selfish ones was a projection of the wartime generation seemed to cope in comparison to the modern era which seems to treat it like a competitive sport. When the family do breakdown in scenes of high emotion we empathise due to journey we have shared with them. I really like Shirley Temple…
To laugh or to cry? In the end both. Teaching dolphins to talk is one thing but teaching them sacrifice and the importance of preserving the American desire for liberty and freedom is another.
If I was to write my own dictionary the word bathos would have a picture of Day of the Dolphin in it. Watch it and experience a new emotion craughter.
The film that Austin Powers wanted to be. James Coburn didn’t have to say - look at me everybody I’m being funny- he just was. I don’t know if this film is feminist or not. It certainly challenges prevalent views of the time but probably is still pertinent today. Also - much better than Austin Powers.
