This was much funnier with a lot of light-hearted playfulness sprinkled throughout what I had come in assuming was a dire drama. There is, of course, uncomfortable drama of being a widowed single mother trying her best to find a new life for her and her son; but the chemistry they share in very grounded naturalistic performances, and a fair share of comedic bits, add a perfect amount of levity to make it an enjoyable watch. Plus you get a young scrappy Jody Foster

Hundreds of Beavers 2022
Silly and innovative. I love to see passion projects on a shoestring budget, the resourcefulness and practical effects bring a quirky imaginative playfulness

Before Sunrise 1995
I had an unexpected passionate day and night with a traveler passing through, and this movie allows me to re-live it a little, days later.
I think having that experience so recently before watching this for the first time makes it that much better.Translated from by -
Nosferatu 2024
As a Robert Egger movie, this pulled through on my expectations around attention to detail in period drama costumes and settings. A faithful adaptation of Stoker's Dracula and the 2 previous Nosferatu's I've seen. I still have a preference for Werner Herzog's, but this was an enjoyable watch. Stark German Expressionism in the lighting, beautiful compositions, cool practical effects. A bit too many jump-scares for me that felt a bit hack, and Lily Rose Depp's performance sometimes went overboard in cartoonist territory to me, but I believe she was doing the best she could with the hysterics being demanded of her.
