The Royal Tenenbaums 2001
These characters really need to click for this to bring you to any sort of emotional connection. it doesn’t help that every beat in this movie is reliant on your trust for the history everyone shares. With that being said, it’s pulled off quite wonderfully. There’s a fair amount of meandering in the second act but it’s all worth it with that bring-it-all-home kinda ending. I really love this movie and all it strives to be.

Idiocracy 2006
This is a genuinely disheartening squandering of massive potential. A premise like this has every oppurtunity to explore systemic exploitation of the lower class. UNFORTUNATELY, it opts for “stupid people fuck more” and outright denies acknowledging that these same people have no access to contraception or birth control recourses.
