This film doesn't rely on any previous film or story from the "Batman" universe, it's an origin story that stands on it's own. The acting is top notch covering misunderstood mental illness of a man who just continues to have to worst luck. The violence is incredibly realistic but only in it's conclusive moments. The film is an instant classic and it's value will likely only increase as time goes on.
