Venus of Mars explores what a marriage looks like when Minneapolis-based punk musician Venus opens up about her true experience of gender to her wife, her band, and her community. Documentarian Emily Goldberg does a great job capturing the reactions of everyone Venus interacts with, including bigoted bargoers, a slew of surprise fans, and the cops. Hearing from Venus herself was especially fascinating. A truly special film to have out of the community! - Chris
A poignant watch, particularly as you realize how little of these stories we truly have from that time. Cheryl Dunye speaks to the camera in much the same way as many content creators today and I hope to think this film has had the influence she hopes to convey that Fae Richards had on her. -Chris
Exploring themes of racism, family expectations, homosexual repression, and parentified relationships, this was a truly unique watch. This film feels fun and refreshing. -Chris
