Even in such a simplistic, almost anti cinematic form this little drama manages to be unnerving, compelling and scarily plausible. The unpolished nature of both its script and actors adds a touch of realism that unknowingly hooks itself into you. Bubble shows how the vile side of human nature exists even in outskirts of the US.
Soderbergh could record leaves blowing in the wind with a camcorder and I swear it would still be fascinating.
This plays into Keke Palmer’s undeniable charm so strongly without giving SZA too much room for error, the result is a hilarious return to form for LA based single day comedies.
Not many people get to be apart of a space where their vulnerability and emotions can be used as tools to express themselves artistically. Showing this particular group of men doing just that is not only soul stirring but hopefully eye opening to people who cast doubt on the power of both prison rehabilitation and the impact art can have in one’s life.

Thelma is packed with geriatric jokes that hit hilariously close to reality, and some great rounded performances from the whole cast. However it won my heart over with the way it handled its themes of mortality, loss of independence, and just growing old. These are all thoughts that sadly just come with time as we grow old, and the way this movie examines it through both grandson and grandma made it all the more touching.
