The Bad Sleep Well 1960
Aside from a dependence on exposition, this is a stunning film from top to bottom. Beautifully shot and suspensfully put together, it is a classic revenge film and damning indictment of post-WWII Japanese bureaucracy.

Howl's Moving Castle 2004
Visually spectacular with a narrative that's compelling. The use of CHI has yet to be surpassed. The voice acting in the dub can be over-wraught, but overall do a good job of capturing the characters.
Which, speaking of characters: this film's strength, apart from the aesthetic beauty, is the detail if pays to the expressions and emotive responses the characters make. It doesn't so much humanize the characters as it does imbue them with life, warts and all.
This is peak Miyazaki and if you disagree, I will fight you.
