The Picture of Dorian Gray 1945
A good movie pushed over the edge of average by its use of lighting techniques and small details within the setting of the film

Black Narcissus 1947
A woman is tasked with creating a convent in the remote mountains with a group of nuns, all with varying degrees of inadequacies. Gorgeous film, beautiful sets with amazing backdrops. Acting was incredibly fluid for its time - with deep and dark storylines. The story was incredibly engaging. The film however had racist dialogue, stereotypes and a large amount of brown-face. Overall, incredible film with large faults because of the rampant racist depictions.

Red Desert 1964
A mentally ill woman suffering from schizo-affective disorder, and more than likely, borderline personality disorder, stumbles her way through life after a traumatic event. This film is visually stunning with a hauntingly desolate landscape and wonderfully unique shots. Unfortunately, the story leaves more to be desired. This film is likely to be enjoyed by filmmakers looking for inspiration; the entertainment-viewer would be left wanting more.
