a movie with an interesting concept but ultimately bloated execution. i can tell that it was probably a very good book but didn’t translate well. if anything they should have cut content more aggressively to simplify.
once i understood the vibe was more campy and ridiculous i enjoyed it more, but overall it suffers from the over-seriousness editing of large budget movies today (felt this way about wicked too).

i have many thoughts, most about the lack of stakes/context established for pretty much any character’s motivations. that being said, erivo’s elphaba is phenomenal and probably the best interpretation of the character i’ve seen.
