This is a hard one for me. Given the film without the graphic novel, I'd easily give it 4 ½ stars, no question. But having read the novel first, which is so much more nuanced, so clear in its intent without having to literally spell it out for its audience, I can't help but feel a little robbed with this adaptation. This is not only the most faithful adaptation for screen of Dickens' classic, but the points at which it deviates from or contributes new content to its source material feel the most organic (and are most appreciated amongst its fellow adaptations - barring A Muppet's Christmas Carol).
Roddy Hughes could not be a better casting for Fezziwig, being the splitting image of John Leech's original illustrations. As everyone else has already said, Alastair Sim is also a perfect Scrooge.
