"Was that Cardi B?"
Such a fucking laugh omg. Great movie
didn't think taking a piss could be so inspiring!
"The Crown promised us 3.4 million hectares of land and returned 30 thousand... I know what it feels like to belong to a land, and feel unwelcomed on it."
Josh connecting with his tangata (people), ahurea (culture), and mana is so similar to the experience that many young Māori have even in modern New Zealand. Despite this film being set in the 80s, there can still be so much shame around being Māori, and being proud of our culture, especially…
"I'm gonna love you forever."
The ending really makes me cry. Like ugly cry. Just that one look back does it; a glance at the past, of what could've been, but isn't. La La Land lives up to its title - its sunsets make me feel a little brighter, Mia and Sebastian's Theme makes my heart beat a little faster. The neon colours and sunny days transport me to another place entirely.
This is genuinely a modern masterpiece.
