Pretty fun movie with two utterly fantastic scares (both courtesy of the effects department), a fun setting, and some general tropey horror shit too. It had me a lot more entertained and invested than Halloween did, and I might actually check out the sequels.

Donald Pleasence is laughably ridiculous as Loomis, the man living in a completely different genre from the rest of the cast in a way that I don’t think was intentional on the part of the filmmakers. The slice of life bits are great, the horror parts are freaky. Is Michael Myers meant to be genuinely supernatural or not? And did John Carpenter mean to leave it ambiguous or did he just do a poor job of communicating what he intended to? The world may never know.
