Deadpool & Wolverine 2024
Clearly there was some passion behind the creation of this film. There's polish, and commitment on the part of the actors.
The film has a major problem that it thinks references are funny. It thinks meta commentary is funny.
If your film is primarily a comedy, and I crack a single smile during the runtime, well what are what we doing here?
The references and meta commentary are more clever or unexpected than I've see in a mainstream superhero film.…

Godzilla Minus One 2023
I don’t watch Godzilla movies. I saw the 1998 film when I was ten and that killed any budding romance with the series.
With all the acclaim, I was expecting something like Godzilla x Grave of the Fireflies, and this comparison does the film no favors.

Arrival 2016
The whole time I was watching arrival all I could think is that it would make a pretty good short story.
Which is unfortunate because it is based on a short story. Which means it has all the traditional sci fi short story features.
A cool concept. The core sci fi nugget is certainly an idea I’d be happy to have at 2am. I’d have fun imagining all the scenarios that could take place.
Unfortunately though to explore this idea…
