Watching this again after seeing it the first time in the depths of quarantine, when it hit me like a ton of bricks. It still absolutely does that: truly upsetting visual effects, and writing that makes you really believe that people to the events of the film, this was a loving family. Impeccably moist, olfactorily evocative, and beautifully shot. Moves from Romantic vistas to absurdist societal breakdown with an easy inexorability that is simply crushing to watch. I'm not sure why I'm not rating it five stars, to be honest.
