♥️ Surrealism, hyperrealism, arthouse bullshit, and queerness.
i don't really like biopics,
i think i would prefer watching archival footage instead, and honestly, for a biopic, i think this is about the most i could enjoy one.
there were some parts that i felt were a little bit out of place, namely parts of the beginning. i appreciate Spike Lee's style, but it felt a little tonally inconsistent with other parts of the film
richard horne being down bad for like, an hour
great depiction of the paranoia and choking atmosphere of living as an illegal immigrant in the US
also she is fucking gorgeous
most of the isabel's experiences are centered on how she is perceived by a cis white man
this is accurate for many minority Americans, but by a matter of force due to the fascist, xenophobic, white supremacist dystopia we live in. thus, the centering is true in reality but seems to distract from the focus of the film
❌🏳️🌈 a little too surface level
