overall a very hollywood hodgepodge of shakespearean men, but I’m not complaining! the title is Gladiator, after all, and part of this film’s appeal is that it just looks so good—it’s truly a coliseum-level spectacle.
in terms of action scenes, I appreciated the more tactical set pieces showcasing military movements as they devolve into close combat, especially that first scene in Rome’s coliseum, though they could’ve been shot differently for slightly better clarity in my opinion. with russell crowe and a hans zimmer score, though, you can’t lose.
