I don't remember the last time I found a movie review so difficult to make, because I didn't really like it but it stayed on my mind for a while.
First I'll take on what annoys me. Some cheap philosophical thinking, dispensable references to supertition and several corny camera shots as well. The dialogue about Jules Verne's Le Rayon Vert could be suppressed. It's a pretty irritating scene where it seems as the director is trying to force the [dumb]…
There are so many innocent people in jail, and they let this guy make movies without any kind of punishment.
Moretti is once again quite clairevoyant, but the end killed me. He tries to understand what's wrong with him, what ghosts have been chasing him all those years, what were his dreams. He says he doesn't change, but movies do. And it annoys me that his solution to those devastating thoughts is simply dance. Maybe I'm just annoyed because it's the only solution and because one expects different answers from a 70 year old with a nice voice. That's why I cannot think of this movie as Moretti's worst. It's a huge slap in the face. And it's funny.
