so glad I finally got to see this. it’s SO hard to access online & apparently that’s quite literally the result of censorship efforts that put this film out of production for a period. this film was a beautiful reminder for how many common tension points & disagreements within the queer community (re: respectability politics & kink discourse) have been re-litigated again and again and again for decades and decade but new generations have few ways to know this as a direct result of extreme, persistent censorship of queer media.

Waterworld 1995
I cannot hate this movie. I first saw it as a child on a hotel t.v. and I was like “wtf” but also never forgot it and it’s actually quite charming in a campy, extreme mad max ripoff sort of way. kevin costner plays brooding, smut novel illustration aquaman whose only love is growing little lime trees. we have found family. endless cigarettes despite no ability to grow tobacco. endless motor-powered water vehicles with no source of fuel. southern preacher pirate villain. you can drink your piss. actually very wonderful, practical action sequences that make me incredibly nostalgic for a filmmaking era before computerized effects.
