Anora 2024
An old-fashioned pop movie: grimy, endearing characters in a relatively simple plot, entertaining and enjoyable at the end of the day. Anora doesn't leave you with much but it's fun and a good watch. I'm baffled that this won best picture but also appreciate that it's down to earth unlike your typical highbrow or melodramatic Oscar winner.

Beautiful doc that had me welling up. The cycle of intergenerational trauma, violence, and poverty is impossible to escape for even the best intentioned, leading to incarceration. Connecting the incarcerated to their daughters brings an unexpectedly profound, lasting human shift.
