I watched this film when it was released and yet our healthcare system has only gotten worse. I always felt that the media and US centrists demonization of Moore presenting him as a crazy leftist was a campaign to silence his working-class-centered message and limit the spread of his political influence. This film should have been the spark for change but now it stands as a warning for things to come.

Salt of the Earth 1954
While most films are meant to entertain, this film teaches. It teaches the audience about the power of solidarity but also that through collective struggle individuals grow and change. This beautiful (blacklisted) film shows how women workers found confidence and strength through collective action and men learned to listen, trust, and treat their female partners as social and political equals. It’s also a film about communist organizing and how they challenged racial inequality. Did I mention that most of the cast were the striking workers? This movie has and always will be my all-time favorite film. It still makes me cry.

Persuasion 1995
The best adaptation of Jane Austen’s final novel. From the casting to the pacing to the realistic scenery, costumes, and makeup, the film makes you feel as though you are present. The acting is phenomenal in their delivery of the novel’s dialogue and embodying the specific characters. It’s difficult to appreciate other adaptations after watching this one 20+ times.

I loved the three little witches, but I am also glad they are not my children.
