The Piano Teacher 2001
the portrayal of the piano teacher is incredibly disturbing yet sad. you can feel erika's despair which is only amplified by the "pleasures" she spirals into. this was michael haneke's nod to self-loathing and self-destruction (oh and french people of course).

ah, the empire of roses.
so many images in this film were beautifully surreal. the static nature of the masks hanging on the museum walls, the girls eating ice cream, eddie brushing her hair above her vanity, the gang fight in the streets, leda's voodoo dolls. the eery yet sensual tone cannot escape me.
