  loneliness is horrible. we feel it together, alone, across time zones, into the afterlife. it chases us when we run, and consumes the room when we stay. 

  this was my first Tsai film and it didn’t disappoint. masterfully shot and draining yet beautiful to witness.

  at some points i was sucked in and felt like i was in those cramped rooms having dinner with the family or drinking at the bar. 

  the main character had me hating him for how he treated those closest to him, but respecting his desire to do right by the students for his father’s crimes in China. 

  the fourth wall break was really confusing to me, and i feel like the studio ran out of budget and had to change…
