I really enjoyed His House, but it often felt like somewhat lazy and rushed story telling. The experience of a haunted asylum seeker resonated a lot, and the pain caused by detention centres and rejections also felt incredibly real. The movie also brought up a really honest conversation about the line we ride between mental health and a supernatural event. Good but could have been better.
This was one of the most misogynistic, awful, damaging and desperately fatphobic movies I’ve ever seen. Even for its time, this movie was horrendous. I always felt guilty for not watching it sooner, but now I’m so glad I held off for this long. The one singular star celebrates the excellent music. That is it. Also, I hope Hugh Grant (who is just English Matthew McConaughey) never finds work again for as long as I live.
