The Princess Bride 1987
Timeless classic. The story continues to deliver despite the conditions; whether being watched in a dingy woodshed while waiting out a storm in North Coromandel, on an plane inflight entertainment screen while a toddler screams one row over, and even (when there is no other option) being described scene by scene with mates to kill time while canoeing on particularly slow stretch of the Whanganui River.

Emotionally raw. Philip Barantini captures the visceral grief of two young people’s futures being destroyed by a split second decision. The deeper narratives about police tactics, the perverse focus on offenders not their victims, generational abuse, cyber bullying, toxic masculinity and the effect of offending on families were woven effectively into the long-form “one-shot” style of the episodes; meaning each theme felt like it had its own time to evolve without overshadowing the wider story. A must watch miniseries.
