a friend convinced me to watch this with her and yea i was down to clown. so i walked into it thinking surely it wouldn't be that bad... but this truly exceeded our expectations... how this is marketed as a fun summer romcom is beyond me... binch it was a thriller horror!!!!! bamboozled... everytime the 2 of them were in a scene alone i was closin my eyes!!!!

watching this felt like i was looking at myself through some kaleidoscopic vision -- as a lonely teenager navigating adolescence mediated via IMs and facebook profiles; a frustrated child blindly blaming their mother; and quite literally the emo older sibling with eczema. i couldn't stop thinking about the desire to be cool and the impulse to imitate, but of course i also thought about my younger brother, my cousins that grew up abroad, my mother and my cousins' mothers, and that line from lady bird: "Don't you think maybe they are the same thing? Love and attention?"
