  still thinking about it but did not rly hit for me. i think most everyone on screen is doing a pretty good job but i felt confused and empty on completion. also its not that sexy bc i was able to watch it with my dad and not feel weird about it :/

  an exploration of misogyny, especially with how the male characters see the relationships they have with women, men, and children in the movie. only their relationships with other men are given complexity and care, women exist for sex and children exist as responsibilities / distractions. robert de niro talks about having nothing that would hold him back, but he turns back for val kilmer. he and al pacino both turn away from an opportunity for normalcy to pursue violence and each other. their inability to honor their own emotional needs destroys them
