    Described as a poem by most, I did not realize I was literally going to be watching a poem, and not a movie with poetic likeness. This and Only God Forgives continues to prove to me that I will take a good narrative structure over “stunning” visuals. I cannot get behind cinematography being the number one thing we take into account when deciding if a movie is worthy of all its praise, I need substantial things to wrap my head around, not just, landscapes and sweeping shots.

    I don’t know if the angst-filled 16-year-old in me will ever go away. Maybe we all carry some version of that restless, disillusioned kid with us. I do know that if I had read Catcher in the Rye when I was 16, I probably would’ve “done myself in.” That book doesn’t just understand teenage alienation, it embodies it.

    “It’s okay for me to be happy” I too was a firm believer in that my whole life was because I needed to be punished for my wrong doings as a child. Not anymore. 

    Side note, first time back in the movie theater since Nosferatu. I miss the movies.
