The End of the Tour 2015
I was expecting “man interviews literary genius, has profound conversations, the man and genius both learn something” and this was that, but it was also something else unexpected. These guys were bitchy, jealous and catastrophically insecure and that dynamic made the endeavour a lot less milk toast than it could have been. Feelings were felt.

Follows the ol’ John Wayne Western formula, a complete parallel to others like Rio Bravo, except Monty Clift is there, adding layered dimension as he always so seamlessly does. I’ve heard others say that Wayne gave a better performance because of this, and maybe that’s true.
Everything was going great until the end, when the bubble was burst unceremoniously. I was incredibly let down by the execution considering the tension being built to what surely should have been an intense and memorable climax. But, alas…

The metaphors were thick, the dialogue veered into silly often, it was excessive and indulgent, but this is a Francis Ford Coppola flick, what were y’all expecting? He’s always been himself and now he’s old and still trying shit. I gotta give the guy credit, especially when Ridley Scott is out here making Gladiator 2.
Look, it’s not necessary a good movie, but it’s not as bad as some people make it out to be. Lower your expectations and it’s a fun watch.
