  Most great artists are fated to succeed because of a hyper specific era and place they were born into.

  Lynch is a rare breed of filmmaker almost entirely unconfined by time - he could be making films in 1950s (one of his only softspots of nostalgia) or the 2020s and he would be equally original, profound and cynical either way. 

  I think part of this is because Lynch is not a cinephile. He doesn’t watch movies - at least not anymore.…
